Jacqueline Woodson
Jacqueline Woodson was born in Columbus, Ohio. She grew up in Greenville, South Carolina and Brooklyn, New York. She is the third of four children, two boys and two girls.
Since childhood, Woodson has been called to the art of writing. She was told by an elementary school teacher that someday she would be a writer. From the time she could write her own name, Woodson has been writing on everything. She states on her website, "I wrote on paper bags and my shoes and denim binders. I chalked stories across sidewalks and penciled tiny tales in notebook margins. I loved and still love watching words flower into sentences and sentences blossom into stories".
Since the birth of her writing career, Woodson has authored over 30 books for children and young adults. She has won numerous awards including the Coretta Scott King Honor Award and the Jane Addams Children's Book Award.
